Acne is a skin disorder which affects the sebaceous gland (oil gland) and hair follicle which is present beneath our skin. This sebaceous gland produces oil called sebum which keeps our skin moisturized. The small holes in our skin called pores are connected to these sebaceous glands by a canal called follicle. Inside the follicle, oil carries dead skin cells to the surface of the skin.

A thin hair also grows through the follicle out to the skin surface. Sometimes the hair, sebum and dead skin cells clumps together which causes a plug and clogs the skin pore. The bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) cause swelling and redness. This is how the acne grows and this tells what is acne all about.

Acne and pimple are mostly grown on face, neck, shoulder, chest, back and throat.
